The relationship between cross-country partner organisations often encounters dilemma's to which one must respond. Physical distances are long, economic and cultural differences diverse and differences in expectations and concerns substantial. The misunderstandings these could cause, can severely strain and damage an international partnership. This course will enable you to critically reflect on your distance relationship and the role you play in achieving successful cross-country partnerships.
Participants:
You are a programme manager or desk officer from an (inter)national organisation and you work in international partnerships on a day-to-day basis.
Course Objectives:
You will improve your capacities to find out the real interests and concerns of your partner organisation in order to build common ground for collaboration. You will also have practiced ways to improve your cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills.
Course contents:
Attention will be paid to common dilemma's and issues faced in international partnerships such as; different types of partnerships, formal or informal agreements, autonomy of the partners, varying value systems, differences in the organisational environment, mutual benefits of collaboration, financial accountability and exchange of learning events.
Training method:
The course offers practical hands-on experience and reflection. Specific interests and needs of participants are discussed at the start of the course and, where possible, will be given a place in the programme. There are opportunities for practical exercises, simulations and role-plays with individual and group feedback for reflection. Video is also used where relevant to offer a mirror for such reflection.
