Source http://www.polifonia-tn.orgAs a reaction to the changing demands of working life and society, instrumental/vocal teacher education seems to be growing in importance as one of the main areas of responsibility of conservatoires and music academies. Simultaneously, however, existing educational frameworks – as well as content and goals – are in a process of change, underlining the importance of international collaboration between institutions and dialogue within the professional field.
With this conference we will strive to create an arena for the exchange of ideas and practices, collaboration and a multilateral debate on the current situation and the challenges for the future of instrumental/vocal teacher education. The conference is part of the work of the ‘Polifonia’ INVITE Working Group of the ERASMUS Network for Music ‘Polifonia’, coordinated by the European Association of Conservatoires (AEC).
The previous INVITE conference in Helsinki in 2007 focused on the rapidly changing work contexts and professional roles of instrumental teachers: not only are our pupils drawn from a multitude of musical, cultural and social backgrounds, but also the actual teaching environment and content are changing. This second conference will continue on this track, looking at the specific competences that are required of future instrumental and vocal teachers, and the challenges and possibilities associated with developing these competences in instrumental/vocal teacher education.
Elements of the conference:
* Plenary sessions, workshops and group discussion
* Presentation and discussion of the work of the Polifonia Thematic Network and the INVITE Working Group
* Key-note speakers and presentations by experts
* Discussions about international collaboration possibilities
* Presentations concerning a competence-based approach to curriculum development
* Information exchange and debate about current issues concerning instrumental/vocal teacher education
* Examples of good practice in teacher education
* A poster session as a forum for presenting your institution’s curriculum, profile, projects and special interests to a selected audience
* Information about existing teacher education programs and current projects
* Getting to know new colleagues, developing collaboration and exchange between teachers and between institutions.
The conference is aimed at representatives of management, professors, teachers and students.
Open call for proposals, deadline 11th January 2010.
