The basic factors which make up a city may be listed as economical, cultural, technological, political and socio-psychological. The conceptual framework of these factors is rooted in the origin of the word “city”. The fact that words such as “civilised” (medeni) and “city” (Medina) in Arabic, and “civilisation” and “city” (Civitas, City) in Latin have the same origin, indicates that civilisations are developed in cities.
